During my first trip to Uganda, I quickly recognized the power of the camera. Children have the tendency to come alive in its presence. They smile, laugh, dance, and sing just for the opportunity to be the object of the lens. I am continually amazed at the stunts they will pull for the chance to stand in front of it.... but what if they stood behind it?

For a long time, I have used photography to process the world around me. This passion has taken me all the way to India to study visual sociology, the culmination of photography and sociology. This experience taught me that the camera can be used to create change. I just had to get it into the right hands. That opportunity came in July 2009.

The children loved their cameras. It provided them with the opportunity to tell their own stories. As a result,  they’ve created a body of work that communicates the truth of their lives. They are eager to share it with you. With your support, they are envisioning a better tomorrow.

Project {Perspective} is currently in the process of rebuilding our program for the future. We look forward to all that it will bring!

Why photography?

Project {Perspective} is a program that exists to train marginalized children in the art of photography in order to help them CAPTURE a new future FOCUSED on a renewed sense of self worth, imagination, and creativity. We use the power of photography to EXPOSE the world to a new PERSPECTIVE that CONTRASTS typical representations in order to CREATE social change.
